This is some incredible weather we been having these last few days. It’s almost painful to be working and not riding the bike, the sad part is that by this weekend the temps are going to be back in the 50s. This weekend we turn the clocks forward, edging us closer and closer to spring and finally summer.
Daughters, sometimes I just don’t get them
The youngest has been driving her mother and I just this side of crazy. Between school schedules and boyfriend travel plans, it’s hard to keep an even keel. I, we, have to keep reminding ourselves she’s 22, and needs to make these decisions on her own. It’s very difficult to keep from telling her what I want her to do, and that she may not be going about things the way I would like, especially when she is the one asking for our opinion. Right now she’s collecting clothing and props so that she and her boyfriend can attend a Purim party sponsored by a local synagogue, Temple Emanuel. I think she said something about going as Pippy Longstocking, how that fits into the Purim theme is beyond me. I was thinking Ester, Vashti, or even a harem girl, but I’ve learned to not pass judgement when it comes to my daughter and her social calender.
Then there’s oldest daughter, this one kills me, as a kid she wasn’t very active or the least bit interested in anything to do with the outdoors. An afternoon hiking in the mountains west of Golden would generally turn into a major ordeal with her. My wife and I would jokingly say to one another, “Watch some day she will be studying chimpanzees in the forests of Africa, with Jane Goodall.” Well maybe not quite that extreme, but she now owns two mountain bikes and snowboards with her boyfriend almost every weekend. She has really changed these last few years and it’s gratifying to see her come into her own.
My son has a concert this weekend where he will be playing clarinet, with The Evergreen Chamber Orchestra. I’m looking forward to see his performance. I’m so happy that he has found his way back to music. He has a blog site (go see his free YouTube clarinet lessons) I’ve listed it in my blog-roll. If you get a chance to check out the blog or the concert you should do it. Maybe because he’s a male or he was the first, I feel like I understand him the better than my daughters.
My kids all have a least one thing in common, they could get lost going from the kitchen to the bathroom, in a one bedroom house. Their navigational instincts come from their mother. She once slipped me written directions to her apartment for our first date, during a class we were attending; in order to prevent peering eyes from getting the directions she reversed all the right and left hand turns. The problem was she neglected to inform me of her brilliant plan. I was about twenty minutes late trying to decifer the mystery map. When I did get to her place, she seemed a little put out that I was late, until I pointed out that all the rights were lefts and the lefts were rights. I should have picked up on something then. I thought maybe it was a test to see how interested I was, twenty seven years later I think I past the test.
Talk to you later.
